As 2020 was coming to an end, so many of us could not wait for the new year to start. A new year is always a time for new beginnings, new hope, and a feeling of a fresh start. It’s like starting a new chapter of a book.
As I was thinking about this opportunity to turn the page of life’s book to a new chapter, two thoughts came to mind.
First, as we read a book and turn to the next chapter, we don’t forget about the words we read in the previous chapters. Those words are a part of the story, the journey. They give us knowledge and information that gives background and understanding for what will happen next. As we all look to 2021 as a year of hope and renewing, remember that Chapter 2020 was a part of the journey. That chapter of our lives changed all of us and will be a part of our lives moving forward as we reflect, make changes and grow from lessons learned.
Chapter 2020 for some left hearts with much sadness and change. For others, Chapter 2020 brought moments of joy such as more family time, weddings, new babies, new homes, and time at home. Everyone’s pages in life are different.
My second thought was looking forward. Each chapter of our lives helps build the story for the chapters ahead. Learning and growing from each chapter creates your life story. What we do with our life becomes our own life book. While there is no guarantee of what Chapter 2021 will bring, each of us can make each daily page filled with goodness, happiness, joy and an opportunity to make a difference. Starting a new chapter this year of 2021 is that fresh start, a clean page for grace and growth.
Write your chapter this year. Make it what you want it to be. Imagine each day as a blank page that is a gift for you and others. Let each day close with words on the page that you can reflect back on and know that day was filled with joy and meaning.
Make Chapter 2021 a page turner so you and others will be excited for what’s coming next!
Living with grace,
